Implementation of Double Degree, Joint Degree, and Dual Degree Programs in a study program is the initial stage and strategic step from a university to achieve World Class University (WCU). In addition, this program is one of the strategies to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia. To realize this, universities/colleges must collaborate with local or international universities to promote their graduates. Through this program, graduates will achieve different experiences than the other regular programs. Thus, university graduates can compete to find a job globally.

As one of the universities on its way to World Class University, Universitas Negeri Medan has made efforts to achieve this by holding a Workshop on the Implementation of Double Degree, Joint Degree, and Dual Degree through Cooperation with Domestic and Foreign Universities (11/11/2021). This workshop presented speakers from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Ronny Rachman Noor, M.Rur.Sc (Professor and Attache of Education and Culture at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra from 2012 to 2016) and Putri Nailatul Himma, SE., M.Ak. (Sub-coordinator of Institutional Sustaining of PT Academic / Young Expert PBJ Manager)

In his speech, Vice-Rector IV Prof. Manihar Situmorang, M.Sc., Ph.D. conveyed, “at this activity, there were faculty ambassadors of study programs who were our spearheads in establishing Collaboration with world-class partners. For that we hope that this activity can provide complete information so that we can convey this information to the dean and director so that the implementation of joint degrees, double degrees and dual degree can be done well. Hopefully, with this activity, we can be motivated to build our Collaboration activities to complete IKU 6, namely regarding Study Program Cooperation with world-class partners,”.

In this workshop, we can determine what steps must be taken between our study programs to collaborate with world-class partners. Therefore our collaborative activities can run well, “concluded Prof. Manihar.

In her presentation, Putri said, “we are in the section on Institutional Strengthening of PT Akademik, the Kampus Merdeka is our flagship policy, with the Kampus Merdeka we expect competent, skilled, and professional graduates who meet the needs of the public and private sectors. To realize the quality of graduates, one of them is the Joint Program. The Joint Program has an impact in increasing the capacity and qualifications of graduates, improving the international reputation of Study Programs and Program Participants, and helping to encourage an increase in the number of international scientific articles. The requirements for applying for a Joint Program permit are self-evaluation, cooperation permit proposals and MoU/MoA,”

Prof. Ronny said that the goal of internationalization is that the government wants to improve universities’ academic reputation and human resources with world-class partners, equality, namely that we want partners to see the advantages of our university that are not present in their universities. So we are only targets in the Collaboration, and finally, the Cooperation that we carry out has been assessed so that the diplomas can be equivalent in Indonesia.
